Juventus suffered a 2-1 defeat to Benfica this evening, marking their second consecutive Champions League loss and extending their winless streak to four games. After the match, head coach Massimiliano Allegri shared his thoughts:
« Football is difficult to explain. All I can say is that after going 2-1 down, the game was effectively over. We risked conceding more to make it 3-1 or 4-1.
« There was a late chance, but even if we had scored, it wouldn’t have changed the quality of our performance. There’s no point in explaining or talking now—we just need to work hard. »
« I already told the team that these moments happen in football. We need to emerge from them as a team, taking responsibility together. We have an important Serie A match coming up against Monza, and only after that can we think about Europe. It’s going to be tough, but nothing is lost yet. »
« I don’t have any criticism for the team. I understand the psychological situation they’re in. We’ve had tough moments and tried to react, but conceding that penalty just before half-time was a real blow to our morale. »
