Barcelona cool their interest in Alvaro Morata

Alvaro Morata will not be moving to Barcelona in the January transfer window.

Catalan journal Mundo Deportivo (via juventusnews24.com) states that the Blaugrana have given up their pursuit of the Juventus striker who will now remain in Turin until at least the end of the season.

Only just over a week ago it seemed certain that the 29-year-old would be leaving the Bianconeri for a new adventure at the Camp Nou, but coach Max Allegri blocked any potential transfer.

Morata is still owned by Atletico Madrid, who value their player at €35M. Now it’s reported that new Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez, a keen admirer of his fellow countryman, will assess the situation at the end of the current campaign.

Allegri stated last week that Morata would stay as one of his first-choice strikers with the Bianconeri only looking to bring in short-term loan-deals in the January window.

Negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain about a season-long deal for Mauro Icardi look to have stalled for the time being, so Morata remains a vital part of the first-team squad.
