Bergomi: ‘Now Allegri knows that he can’t take Juve back to the top’

Former star defender Beppe Bergomi believes that, following the defeat against Sassuolo, Massimiliano Allegri knows he cannot guide Juventus back to the top.

The Bianconeri’s ambition to re-enter the Scudetto race has become even more challenging after their 2-1 midweek loss to Sassuolo, leaving them 13 points behind league leaders AC Milan.

Many football analysts, including Bergomi, think it will be extremely difficult for Juventus to reclaim their place at the top. The former Inter defender even suggests that Allegri is aware of the uphill battle his team faces.

« In recent games, Allegri consistently praises his opponents: Roma deserved a draw, Juve played poorly against Zenit, Inter are the Scudetto favorites, and he approached them with a specific style, » Bergomi told Sky Sport (via Juventusnews24).

« Against Sassuolo, with his best players returning, he labeled the match a must-win. Now, after the defeat, Max understands that he cannot take his team back to the top of the table, » Bergomi added.

Juventus will attempt to bounce back this weekend when they face Hellas Verona. However, another negative result could effectively end their hopes of competing for the Scudetto this season.
