Carvalho reveals Ronaldo’s dream at Juventus

Former Portugal defender Ricardo Carvalho reveals Cristiano Ronaldo’s dream was to win the Champions League at Juventus.

The Portuguese ace scored 101 goals in 134 games during his three-year spell in Turin, but failed to lift the Champions League.

Juventus lost to Ajax in the 2019 quarter-finals and suffered back to back eliminations in the Round of 16 against Lyon and Porto in 2020 and 2021.

“Juventus are no longer accustomed to reaching the Final or the semis every season,” Carvalho told Tuttojuve (via Football Italia).

“The name or the team’s strength is not enough to win the Champions League, a competition made of details. Cristiano’s dream was to win the Champions League at Juventus, but unfortunately, they lacked something to do so.”

Ronaldo returned to Manchester United last summer for €15m plus €8m add-ons. Carvalho won the 2016 Euros with CR7 and became a European champion also at a club level, winning the Champions League in 2004 with Porto under José Mourinho.

Despite Ronaldo’s 23 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions this season, the Red Devils are likely to miss out on a top-four finish so they may not play in the Champions League next season.

It remains to be seen if the former Real Madrid star will remain at Old Trafford without playing in Europe’s elite competition.
