Champions League: Coquelin to miss Juventus clash next month

Villarreal have been dealt a massive blow ahead of next month’s Champions League clash with Juventus.

Corriere dello Sport reports that the Yellow Submarine will be without midfielder Francis Coquelin for the Round of 16 tie on February 22.

The player has had an operation on an Achilles tendon injury, which he suffered in last November’s 3-1 defeat against Barcelona and will be sidelined for at least two months.

It was thought that the 30-year-old would not need to have surgery, but Villarreal’s medical team advised the player that this would be the best course of action.

The two clubs will meet in Spain next month in the first-leg tie with the return at the Allianz Stadium taking place on March 16.

Reports suggest that Villarreal are hopeful the former Arsenal player will be available for selection for this game although it is still early days in his recuperation.
