Paulo Dybala once turned down an opportunity to work with Antonio Conte, but the pair could now reunite in the Premier League next season.
During Conte’s tenure as Italy’s national team coach, he approached Dybala, who holds an Italian passport, about representing the Azzurri. However, Dybala declined the offer.
“I could not play for a country that is not mine,” Dybala told Olé in 2014, while playing for Palermo.
“I spoke to my family, and I have my entire career ahead, so I prefer to wait for Argentina.”
Fast forward seven years, and according to Tuttosport (via Football Italia), the 28-year-old could now team up with Conte at club level.
Should “La Joya” leave Juventus this summer, reports suggest he would prefer a move outside Serie A to avoid disrespecting the Bianconeri. Conte, now managing Tottenham Hotspur, has been open about his interest in bringing Dybala to North London.
In Argentina, reports claim Dybala is unwilling to accept changes to the terms of a new deal in Turin. The player had initially agreed in principle to a contract worth €10 million per season, but negotiations have since stalled.
A potential Premier League switch could offer a fresh chapter for the Argentine star.
