Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has lauded compatriot Carlo Ancelotti following Real Madrid’s Champions League win Manchester City.
Real staged a dramatic comeback late in the second leg of the semi-final against City and Karim Benzema’s extra-time penalty took them to the final. Ancelotti has now reached five Champions League finals in his career.
Allegri spoke about Ancelotti during the recent Juventus press conference and he hailed the ex-Bianconeri manager.
He said: “I compliment Carlo, he has done something extraordinary. He has been criticised despite all the trophies he has won. As I always say, trends are transitory, but the classics remains. Like the blue or grey suits. Ancelotti has proved so much, he has won five titles in five different leagues. One can only congratulate him.”
Allegri also lauded Daniele Orsato for his showing in the game at the Bernabeu, saying:
“It was a marvellous game. I want to compliment Orsato, he refereed with personality. To me, he is the best referee. Real Madrid proved that games never end. Character and personality make the difference, like technique and physical strength.”
Juve last reached the Champions League final in 2017 and they had lost to Real themselves. They had also lost to Barcelona in the Champions League final of 2015.
