Juventus could face competition from Barcelona in their pursuit of Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
The German international has been a pivotal player for Manchester City’s midfield but is reportedly considering an exit next summer. Gundogan is said to be unhappy with his role last season, where he started just 20 matches in the Premier League.
Now 31 years old and entering the final year of his contract, Gundogan’s future remains uncertain. Without a contract extension, Manchester City could be compelled to sell him to avoid losing him on a free transfer. This precarious situation has caught the attention of several top clubs, with Juventus and Barcelona leading the chase.
According to Bild (via Football Italia), both the Italian and Spanish giants are closely monitoring Gundogan’s situation. Should the German star decide to leave, they are expected to make formal moves for his signature.
Juventus, meanwhile, are focused on reinforcing their midfield and are reportedly close to re-signing Paul Pogba. However, adding Pogba alone might not suffice, and acquiring another seasoned player like Gundogan could further strengthen their squad.
