Juventus are preparing to make a move for Benfica defender Alex Grimaldo in January, as the Spaniard will be entering the final six months of his contract with the Portuguese outfit.
According to what has been reported by Italian newspaper the Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus see the Spanish left-back as the ideal heir to Alex Sandro; after being impressed by the Benfica star’s performance when the two sides faced each-other nearly two weeks ago.
It was expected that Sandro would leave Juventus in the summer just gone – and that the club would sign an additional left-back, given the temporary departure of Luca Pellegrini on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt.
New signing Filip Kostic is a competent wing-back but his attacking talents would be certainly wasted if Allegri chose to limit him to defence. Therefore, signing a new full-back would be key to bolster Juventus’ squad depth and Allegri’s options – and with under a year left on Grimaldo’s contract, he becomes the obvious choice.
