Despite a disappointing defeat midweek against Chelsea in the Champions League, there was one positive to be taken from the fixture. Belgian midfielder Koni De Winter made his debut for Juventus, coming on as a substitute for Juan Cuadrado.
Speaking to JTV ahead of a match against Virtus Verona tomorrow, Juventus U23 head coach Lamberto Zauli commented on a few topics, including De Winter’s debut:
“Virtus Verona are a difficult opponent to face, because they have less pressure from the outside. They have the right mix of young players who want to get noticed and players who have already played in important leagues. For us it will be an important test. We must give continuity and finish the match. A third win in a row would be important despite the difficulties. It will take an excellent performance to find the victory.
“I am very happy for [De Winter]: he is a boy I coached in the Primavera and I know his path. He has waited for his moment, he has also lived through difficult moments of little gratification, but he has grown up to make his debut in the first team. For us it’s very gratifying to see him make his Champions League debut.”
