Juventus Women draw 2-2 with Wolfsburg: match report and player ratings

Juventus Women still keeping their Champions League hope alive and well despite only grabbing a 2-2 draw at home against Wolfsburg.

After losing against Chelsea 2-1 on their latest group stage fixture, the Bianconere are aiming to bounce back.

However, their opponent are no slouch as Wolfsburg Women are among the top sides in Germany.

Both teams are keen on picking up maximum results but neither want to make any mistakes early in the game. This resulted in a cagey start from the two sides but Wolfsburg settle in quicker and started to create chances.

However, despite struggling early on it was Juve that got the lead thanks to Cristiana Girelli’s effort after 22 minutes. That lead didn’t last long as three minutes later the German side equalized through Lena Lattwein.

Wolfsburg ended the half strongly after getting their equalizing goal, but the Bianconere started better after the break. Joe Montemurro’s side were piling up the pressure on their opponent but against the run of play, Wolfsburg took the lead from Tabea Waßmuth.

Juve were pushing hard to get back into the game and their relentless effort was rewarded in the 91st minute as Girelle completed his brace and rescued a point for her team.

It was an important result for both teams, notably for the Bianconere as their hope of advancing from the group stage is not over. They’re currently sitting third in the standings with four points, while Chelsea lead the table with seven points followed by Wolfsburg with five.
