Former Juventus boss Lippi reveals secret of legendary team

Former Juventus manager Marcello Lippi has revealed his secret for the club’s legendary team under him.

Lippi managed Juve across two spells. The first spell began in 1994 and ended in 1999. The second spell started in 2001 and concluded in 2004.

He spoke about his teams during a recent lecture held in the  hall of the University of International Studies in Rome (via IlBianconero). Lippi revealed that having leaders and an Italian core was one of the secrets to his success at Juve.

“I won many important things. The 1996 Champions League is still today the last one won by the club. Then the Intercontinental Cup, the European Super Cup, the Italian Cup, the 4 Italian Super Cups and the 5 Scudetti.

“There, I had many great champions, often alternating from year to year. The real secret is having charismatic leaders such as Antonio Conte or Didier Deschamps, as well as being able to count on an Italian hard core made up of Peruzzi, Ferrara, Di Livio or Tacchinardi.”

Lippi won the Champions League in 1996, winning the Scudetto five times across the two spells. He helped the club win the Coppa Italia in 1995, winning the UEFA Super Cup in 1997.
