New Bayern star De Ligt remains grateful to Juventus

Bayern Munich’s new signing Matthijs De Ligt says that he remains grateful to his former club: Juventus.

The Dutch international decided to leave Turin this summer and join Bayern in an €80m deal including bonuses. De Ligt initially still has a contract until 2024 with Juve but asked the club to sell him this summer.

Although Juve were keen on keeping him, they eventually accept the player’s wish and let him join Bayern. After his move to the Bundesliga outfit, De Ligt was accused of taking digs at his former club in some of his interviews.

The player’s statement of how the training session in Germany are much harder was suggested as an attack on Juve. However, De Ligt denies the accusation claiming that he was attacking the Bianconeri.

The player reveals that he has nothing but respect for his former team and none of his words are meant to attack them. De Ligt admits that he remains grateful for his time at Juventus as they help him mature as a defender.

“My statements were not an attack towards Juventus. Not at all, I always have the utmost respect for the club,” De Ligt told De Telegraaf(via Juventusnews24).

“I was just saying facts on how one must never feel satisfied and always try to raise the bar, including myself.”

“I will never forget how my former teammates always helped me to grow as a player and a man,” the defender explained.
