Juventus has officially announced the return of Paolo Montero as head coach of their U19 Primavera team and the appointment of Massimo Brambilla as the new U23 coach.
Paolo Montero returns to Juventus
The former Uruguayan international and Juventus defender will lead the Primavera team for the 2022-23 season. Juventus shared the news through an official statement, marking the return of a club legend who spent nine illustrious years in Turin during his playing career.
Montero joined Juventus in 1996 from Atalanta, shortly after the club’s Champions League victory. Over his tenure, he won six Serie A titles (two later revoked due to the Calciopoli scandal), three Supercoppa Italiana trophies, a UEFA Super Cup, and an Intercontinental Cup. In 277 appearances at the Stadio delle Alpi, he scored six goals, earning his place among the club’s legends.
After retiring in 2007 following a final season at Peñarol, Montero transitioned into coaching, beginning with Peñarol’s first team in 2014. His managerial career has taken him to clubs such as Boca Unidos, Colon, Rosario Central, Sambenedettese, and San Lorenzo. Now, he returns to Juventus to shape the next generation of stars.
Juventus’ statement on Montero’s return:
“Paolo Montero brings his wealth of experience and winning mentality back to Juventus. His years of success as a player at the club in the late 1990s and early 2000s will serve as a foundation for his role as U19 coach. We are excited to see him instill his football philosophy and work ethic in our young talents. Welcome back, Mister, and good luck!”
Massimo Brambilla takes over U23 coaching role
Massimo Brambilla joins Juventus after seven highly successful years at Atalanta’s youth academy, where he built a reputation as one of Italy’s top youth coaches. Brambilla’s achievements include two Primavera Scudetti and two Italian Super Cups with Atalanta’s U19 team.
A former midfielder, Brambilla enjoyed a solid playing career, featuring for clubs such as Monza, Torino, Siena (where he helped secure their historic promotion to Serie A), Cagliari, and Mantova. His coaching journey began at Pergocrema and later progressed through roles at Novara and Atalanta’s youth teams, where he developed numerous players who have since excelled professionally.
At Juventus, Brambilla will work with the U23 squad, a young and talented group, to foster their development and prepare them for higher levels of competition.
Juventus’ statement on Brambilla’s appointment:
“We are thrilled to welcome Massimo Brambilla to Juventus. His proven track record of developing young players and achieving success at the Primavera level makes him the perfect fit for our U23 team. We look forward to embarking on this new adventure together. Welcome, Mister, and good luck!”
With Montero and Brambilla at the helm of their respective squads, Juventus aims to strengthen their youth development system and ensure a bright future for the club. Fans will be eager to see how these seasoned coaches shape the next generation of Bianconeri talent.
