Pique slams Juventus, Barcelona and Madrid over Super League

Barcelona star Gerard Pique criticized Juventus, Real Madrid, and Barcelona’s decision regarding the Super League.

Those three teams are the main architects for the breakaway league project which only lasted for 48 hours. Even though the other nine previous members have left withdrawn from the competition, none of Barca, Juve, or Madrid have done the same and are still involved in the project.

There have been plenty of rejections for that project and one of the latest comes from Barcelona star, Pique. The Spaniard understands the three club’s position but believes that the Super League is not the right plan for football and its fans.

“The Super League destroys football because only big clubs benefit from it,” Pigue told Skybet (via ilbianconero.com)

“It’s not the best thing for the fans. In my view, if you only favour the big clubs it will destroy football.

“I don’t think Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus did the right thing, even if I fully understand their position.”

UEFA are reportedly planning to sanction Juve, Barca and Madrid if they insist on keeping the Super League project going.

At the end of April, the Commercial Madrid court lifted the injunction imposed on UEFA so the European football governing body could now sanction the three clubs with fines or even excluding them from European competitions from 2023-24.
