Ronaldo was close to join Chelsea after leaving Juventus

Cristiano Ronaldo was reportedly one step away from joining Chelsea as he was set to leave Juventus before Manchester United eventually swoop him.

The Portuguese international caught himself in another headline following a controversial interview that will likely end his adventure with Man United. In an interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo claimed that the Red Devils betrayed him.

Considering his age and recent performances, it’s interesting to see which teams that he will be going to next. However, before returning to Old Trafford, CR7 apparently was close to another team in the Premier League aside from Manchester City.

Multiple reports suggest that Man City were the main rival for United to secure Ronaldo’s signature last season. That does not seem to be the case as according to Il Corriere dello Sport’s Ivan Zazaroni(via Football Italia), Chelsea were also in the mix.

Zazaroni claims that there was already an agreement between the Blues and Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes. Unfortunately, that potential move was receiving strong resistance from Chelsea’s boss at the time, Thomas Tuchel.

In the end, CR7 eventually opted to join Man United after some talks with his ex-manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.
