Former coach Arrigo Sacchi believes that Juventus’ defensive approach played a part in their Coppa Italia defeat against Inter.
The Bianconeri suffered a disappointing end to their Coppa Italia adventure following a 4-2 loss (after extra-time) against the Nerazzurri. Even though Inter are stronger on paper but it was a winnable game for Massimiliano Allegri’s men.
Juve were able to turn things around early in the second half after they went a goal down in the first 45-minutes. Former Milan and Italy coach, Sacchi believes Allegri’s defensive tactic when the Bianconeri were ahead might cost them the win.
“Juve deservedly equalized and took the lead in the second half,” Sacchi told La Gazzetta dello Sport(via Juventusnews24).
“For 10 minutes, Juve had that spirit of sacrifice and determination that embodied them in past years.”
“Then they went to play with five at the back and only think about defending without using the space to attack Inter,”.
“Does it seem logical to bring your opponent home? I think it’s more effective to keep them away.”
Sacchi did admit though that in extra-time both teams have equal chances of winning the match. However, Inter seem to have a more favorable situation in that match instead of Juve.
“Honesty, I think in extra time either team could have won it. However, the decisive episodes were on Inter’s side.”
