Video: Di Maria questions Milik’s substituion in Juve’s defeat to Benfica

At the final whistle of Juventus’ clash against Benfica, Angel Di Maria looked confused about why Arkadiusz Milik was subbed off in the second half.

The Bianconeri suffered their second consecutive defeat in the UCL as they were beaten 2-1 by the Eagles. Despite starting the game well after grabbing an early goal through Arek Milik, Juve couldn’t even hold their lead.

After equalizing through Joao Mario just before half time break, Benfica eventually got in front through a David Neres goal. Juventus struggled to get back into the game and even risked conceding more.

There was plenty of disappointment and confusion after the game, especially with Allegri’s decision to replace Milik in the second half. Without the in-form striker, Juve seem to lose an extra threat upfront.

Not only the fans who were questioning the substitution, the Bianconeri’s star, Di Maria was also confused with it. After the final whistle, the Argentinian was asking Milik why he was substituted.

Massimiliano Allegri did eventually explains the reason, claiming that Juve were struggling in midfield and the Polish striker looked tired.

“I took Milik off because we were struggling with only two midfielders,” Allegri said at the press conference (via Football Italia).

“I had to take a striker off, I took Milik off, who seemed more tired.”
