Juventus legend Dino Zoff believes Max Allegri is the right coach to lead Juventus back to success, but he cautions that time will be needed to assess whether Federico Gatti is truly fit for the club.
The Italian international impressed during his senior debut for the Azzurri in a Nations League match against England earlier this month. His solid performance against the Three Lions earned widespread praise. Juventus signed Gatti in January, but he will join the squad in the summer after completing his loan spell at Frosinone. Zoff insists patience is necessary to determine if Gatti can become a key player under Allegri.
Allegri has faced significant criticism from fans and media after Juventus endured their first trophyless season in 11 years. However, Zoff, a 1982 World Cup-winning goalkeeper, believes Allegri is the ideal man to restore the Bianconeri to their winning ways.
In an interview with Il Bianconero, Zoff also touched on Ángel Di María’s form, Gatti’s potential, and Gianluigi Donnarumma’s decision to choose PSG over Juventus last year.
What Dino Zoff said about Juventus, Allegri, Gatti, Di María, and Donnarumma
DI MARÍA – “Juventus must aim to be title contenders again; a simple top-four finish isn’t enough. Di María is performing well so far, but we’ll see how things go.”
ALLEGRI THE RIGHT COACH TO WIN – “I believe so. Securing Champions League qualification wasn’t easy, and Allegri deserves credit for that. I hope Juve can return to winning right away.”
DONNARUMMA – “He chose to go to Paris, and I think he’s happy there. PSG is a top team, and I don’t expect the same competition with Navas to happen next season.”
GATTI – “He seems like a promising player, but he needs time. Judging him based on one international match at the end of the season isn’t enough. The early signs are good, but patience is required.”
Zoff’s insights reflect the challenges and potential paths forward for Juventus as they strive to regain their dominance in Italian and European football.
